Growing Edges is dedicated to helping others find within themselves a deep and lasting sense of wholeness, worth, and esteem.

Growing Edges' founder, Ilyssa Swartout, Psy.D., earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Long Island University in New York State, her master's degree in learning disabilities from Arizona State University, and doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Arizona School of Professional Psychology. Continuing education is important to Dr. Swartout. She is currently a certified Gestalt therapist and recognized as a Schema therapist through the Schema Institute of New York. In addition, Dr. Swartout is recognized as an in-depth psychotherapist through the International Institute for Humanistic Studies, and serves on their advisory board. Dr. Swartout is affiliated with several organizations including the American Psychological Association, the Arizona Psychological Association, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and RESOLVE, the national infertility support organization. Dr. Swartout is currently serving as adjunct faculty in the clinical psychology program at Argosy University, Phoenix Campus.

After spending fourteen years in the education field, Dr. Swartout realized her dream of a career change and entered the field of psychology. Through her experience in the world of education with both students and their parents, and through her own personal struggles, Dr. Swartout brings a special expertise to the field of psychology. While practicing from an existential-humanistic framework, Dr. Swartout uses an effective combination of methods to help her clients achieve a harmony between the emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical aspects of life.

Dr. Swartout works on an individual and group basis with adults, couples, and adolescents who are suffering from depression & anxiety, loss/grief, abuse issues, addictions, anger, stress, infertility challenges, and life-changes. She is a licensed psychologist and substance abuse counselor, and a certified bereavement counselor. Dr. Swartout is dedicated to helping individuals through difficult periods and to maximizing their potential.
